The universal church: every people and nation
We believe that the church of Jesus Christ is universal: one people united to Him by faith, made up of believers from every tribe, language, people and nation. In this sense, we confess that the church is catholic, a word meaning universal that describes its worldwide scope here, rather than a denominational affiliation. We share one Lord, one faith and one hope, beyond our cultures and borders.
Visible and invisible, one people of God.
The visible church is expressed in congregations that profess faith in Jesus Christ and gather to worship, hear the Word, celebrate baptism and the Lord's Supper, and serve their neighbors. By the invisible church, we mean all those who truly belong to Christ, fully known by God, from every place and generation. These expressions describe two aspects of the same church: its public life in the world and its spiritual reality before the Lord.
Christ is the head and the Chief Shepherd.
Jesus Christ is the head of the church, its supreme Shepherd and the Lord who guides and sustains it. Pastors and leaders serve under His authority, called to care for the flock with humility, faithfulness to the Word and love. Our unity and hope rest in Him.
